Bad Hair Days

I have bad hair days.  Those of you who watch my videos know that my hair has a will of its own.  Some days it’s flat and some days it’s fluffy.  Sometimes I can make it curl and other days it’s stick straight.  Because my hair was so straight when I was little, my mother kept it cut short or gave me “Tony Perms” that left me looking like Shirley Temple.  I dreamed about what it would be like to be like other girls who had long hair, and I envied those whose hair had natural body.

Envy is a terrible thing.  It takes away the comfort of knowing that we are all created unique, and that being different is a good thing.  So often we try to fit ourselves into a certain shape and become dissatisfied when we fall short.  After Jesus rose from the dead, he came to Peter and asked Peter if he loved him.  Peter was frustrated because Jesus asked him that question three times.  After the third time Peter pointed to John and asked Jesus, “what about him?”

Jesus responded with, “it’s not really any of your concern.  You follow me.”

I want to encourage you today.  Don’t look at someone else.  Keep your eyes on Jesus.  He has a grand plan for your life.  It won’t be the same plan that he has for someone else.  No, it is the plan he designed just for you.   Your hair might be long or short, straight, or curly.  You could be tall or short, round or thin.  It doesn’t matter as long as you hear God’s voice and live for him.  Be your unique self.  Be content and serve the Lord with all of your heart.  God loves you just the way you are!

John 21:21-22

When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about this man?”  Jesus said to him, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!”
