Be the Change
by Robin Alcala
If we don’t change, we don’t grow. If we don’t grow, we aren’t really living. We can’t grow if we just stay where we are. We can’t grow if we don’t change the way we think and act. In fact, changing our life is a continuous process. It never ends. The moment we stop changing is the moment we stop growing. Actually, when we are through changing we are through.
If we want to change our life we must be willing to change our mind. When we change our thoughts then we will change our worlds.
Is there an area in our thinking patterns, our attitudes, or behavior that need some cultivation and some things weeded out? Do we keep procrastinating possibly because we are not willing? Is there something we are not necessarily cheerfully or eagerly compliant in? If someone or something forces us then we will comply; otherwise, we really are not up to voluntarily doing it or accepting it.
So, if we are unwilling then aren’t we in fact, willfully, deliberately, intentionally, unreasonably, stubbornly insisting to persist in doing whatever it is that we want to do? Not necessarily choosing what we should do? Or what is the best thing to do even for our own welfare? Being headstrong oftentimes is just plain foolish. Ouch! It has been said that, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
Then is all hope lost? I don’t think so. One thing I love about our Creator is that He will enable us to not only do what is the right and prudent thing, but when we don’t feel like it or even want to, He will also empower us to be willing! God will work in us to make us willing and be able to change.
Change does not have to take a life time. We can change or begin the process of change in a quick moment by just humbly recognizing and asking for His assistance, while depending on His grace as we choose to be willing. Yep, I said, as we choose. That’s all there is to it. Actually, whatever we are not changing we are choosing.
Also, we shouldn’t wait for God to do a miracle either. Snap and it is all done. We will find our miracle in our motion. Get moving. Even if we stumble we are still moving forward. When we do something about it only then we will find the power is in our doing. When we act the way we would like to be, we will soon be the way we’d like to act.
Willingness is essential. It’s our life. Nobody can change it but us. Accepting responsibility in our life is a must. Don’t blame other people for the unfortunate things that happen in our life. Once we take responsibility then real change is possible. Let’s work on changing ourselves rather than asking or praying for things to change for us.
Initiating change and for lasting change, the next step is to replace limiting beliefs with empowering beliefs. The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without our thinking. Limiting beliefs are among our biggest challenges that rob us from the transformations we desire to experience. So, to create more powerful results, let’s exchange “If only” with “Next time”. Exchange, “I can’t” with “I will”. And the disabling belief, “I will always be…” with “I am responsible for me, therefore, I will take the necessary steps to achieve this.”
We cannot change our destination overnight. But we can change our direction. Nobody can go back and start a new beginning. But anyone can start today and make a new beginning. Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice. Incredible change happens when we decide to take control of what we do. Our life will not get better by chance it will only get better by change. Let’s not find ourselves wishing a year from now that we had started today.
Also, remember before we can change the world we must first start by changing ourselves. Then we can go and be the change we wish to see in the world. And since, one day our life will flash before our eyes, let’s make sure it’s worth watching.
