DOGE

“Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do when they come for you?”
These are some of the words of the theme song for the television show “Cops.” Many in our federal government bureaucracies could well be hearing this their heads. Instead of police officers closing in on criminals in the streets, we have the men and women of the Department of Government Efficiency. Thousands of honorable government servants have renamed this acronym to stand for Developing Obedience to Government Ethics. Every servant stands as a witness and cheerleader for these investigative analysts, digital engineers, and cyber commandos as they close in on the criminal activity of waste, fraud, and the abuse of power.
Before going further, I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the challenging work of past Presidents that while they may not have been successful, did address and try to give Americans a leaner and more efficient government. The first to tackle this problem was Thomas Jefferson. His administration cut federal spending, ended taxes, and focused on fiscal responsibility at the federal level and emphasized the importance of the state’s responsibilities.
Fast forward some 76,000 days, and Calvin Coolidge made his dent in the reduction of the federal government. Then a couple of decades later Harry Truman set the record by removing over half a million federal employees. More decades passed, and Ronal Reagan came to Washington noticing the size of our nation’s federal government and the overwhelming smell of pork from the capital, took aim at reducing the size and scope of government operation by reducing spending and tax cuts.
Then Bill Clinton got it in his head that he could do better and made a run at Truman’s record. In his braggadocious statement he declared that he would be taking a “Historic step in reforming the federal government” to give the American people a “less expensive and more efficient government.” The old boy from Arkansas made a good attempt but fell short of Truman by about 150,000. But his words would inspire successive presidents, as even our first Socialist President Barrack Hussein Obama made cuts to the federal employee rosters.
Now we have President Donald Trump, in his second term and drawing from the actions of his predecessors, trying to fulfill the requirements given to him by the American people. In his means and methods, we see the influence of many past presidents. However, there is one glaring difference, those that were silent when earlier presidents conducted this necessary task, are now madder than a wet hen.
So, what is DOGE doing?
To put it plainly and in as few as words as possible. DOGE is doing what the already established and redundant government entities should have been doing. The Government Accountability Office, Inspector General offices, Comptroller, and the various congressional oversight committees, all have been derelict in the duty, asleep on their watch, or in bed with enemy.
Why is DOGE necessary?
To accurately answer this question, one only needs to go to DOGE’s website. Once there scroll down to the “Greatest Hits.” There you will find the beneficiaries of some of the most unconstitutional, illegal, immoral, and unethical abuses of power by our government officials. As the administrators of the website so accurately put it, “You can’t make this stuff up.” Plain and blunt again. The people we have been electing do not know how to behave! Elected representatives stopped practicing statesmanship and began playing politics. Charisma replaced honor, decadence replaced duty, egos ignored ethics, and corruption filled our government.
Why do I like DOGE?
In writing this article, I am standing on both sides of the fence. As a citizen of our nation, and as a servant to our nation. Picture in your mind this fence I stand at as enclosing a pasture, or better, a pig pen. On one side I can see and smell the manure, on the other side I am standing in it. In both positions I am affected as it destroys my trust. As a citizen with my elected representatives, and as a government servant in the leadership of my organization.
Government servants are not put out the least bit by the spotlight of accountability being swept over them. Government servants in the Executive Branch understand that they serve at the pleasure of the President. Servants understand that they are stewards of the people’s trust and money. Starting with the entry level wage grade hireling to the highest elected servant, all are stewards. All swore an oath, and because of that oath, I support DOGE’s actions to discover and root out the rampant waste, fraud, and abuse.
Who does not like DOGE?
Follow the money. Go to the feed trough. There at the trough, every part of our society is represented by the “Leech and her two daughters.” (Prov. 30:15) And one of the daughters is having a friend sleep over, her name is “Free.” They are the self-serving in government, the greedy corporations, the intellectual and ideological in academia, and the masses of federal employees that wander the halls of federal agencies. All are upset with actions taken so far by DOGE. They view their funding, authority, and employment as an entitlement without any accountability. They will always be steadfastly loyal to the hand that feeds them.
Will DOGE be successful?
Many are already claiming and celebrating the success of DOGE. I am reserving my opinion on their success. We are talking about the government policing themselves. If the Government Accountability Office and the Inspector General offices who are supposed to be independent and non-partisan have not shown this alleged criminal activity to the American people prior to DOGE, how can they be trusted now? With DOGE being an actual department in the Executive Branch, will they not be suspect as well? Will their means and methods change when a new administration comes into the office?
Proverbs 26:11 NLT
As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his foolishness.
For success to manifest, DOGE will need the support of all the government departments. Especially the Dept. of Justice, as success may require indictments, prosecutions, and prison terms. Every member of Congress who voted AYE to these spending bills, every President that placed his signature on them, (for the period of Jan 2021-Jan 2025 whoever operated the autopen) and every bureaucrat that authorized the misappropriation of funds should be held accountable.
DOGE’s success, as with any endeavor will be in the result. For success to become complete, the American people need to be able to trust their servants and stewards again. Honor and integrity must once again permeate the hearts who serve our nation. A healthy fear of discovery must always be present in their minds.
