Is Patriotism evil and against God’s love and purposes?
I personally believe this subject needs to be addressed, because this is what we have been spoon-fed by the “powers that be,” which has led to a level of deception that is becoming increasingly problematic.
Patriotism is defined in Webster’s Dictionary as:
“Love for or devotion to one’s country.”
That sounds a lot like God’s love for Israel in the Bible.
Jeremiah 31:3
“The Lord appeared to me from afar, saying, ‘I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore, I have drawn you with lovingkindness.’”
This is one of Scripture’s strongest declarations of God’s enduring love for Israel.
Here is the thing about love: two things can be true at once. I can love my country and prioritize the needs of my country because I live there, and still love other nations as well. Godly, ordered love is a command in Scripture. God demonstrated this kind of love through His relationship with Israel. We are never led to believe that God loves other nations less simply because of His focus on Israel.
If I let my family fall apart in the name of serving God, that is hardly a true expression of love for God. Likewise, if I let my nation fall apart under the banner of serving God, that is not a genuine expression of God’s heart either.
King Hezekiah is an example of something similar. He was satisfied in his lifetime and experienced peace, but it came at the expense of his descendants going into captivity, which he was aware of. He desired peace in his own generation more than he desired to stand for what would affect his children after he was gone. The outcome of his actions, or lack of action, reflected a failure to fully love and protect his own lineage.
The Bible also commands us to seek the welfare of our homeland:
Jeremiah 29:7
“Seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf; for in its welfare you will find your welfare.”
“For in its welfare you will find your welfare.”
This is one of the simplest expressions of common sense stewardship: take care of where you live, because it does not only affect you, it impacts future generations. That is, in fact, a layer of love: to see life, order, and health established in the environment you are called to steward as a Kingdom ambassador.
You are not labeled a “Christian nationalist” simply because you love your country. That label is often used to silence dissent against ideologies that are harmful to human flourishing. In many cases, it becomes a narrative tool to suppress moral conviction.
Any expression of love for a nation that seeks its flourishing while maintaining order and borders is often framed as a threat. Yet the reality remains: a nation without borders and without law and order, is not a nation at all.
Look at what is happening in places like the UK. Reports have estimated hundreds of thousands of sexual assaults and exploitation cases connected to systemic failures in border and enforcement policy. This is not God’s design for human safety or order.
God establishes boundaries because of His love. You will not find a thriving nation that has abandoned all order and borders; such conditions will eventually all reflect decline. Jesus said, “You will know them by their fruit.” He did not say you would know them by how appealing their ideas sound. The outcome of a belief system reveals its true nature. If it produces destruction instead of human flourishing, it is not aligned with Christ.
God’s love also includes law, order, and justice. Anyone suggesting that defunding law enforcement or releasing violent offenders without accountability, is not aligned with God’s heart. That thinking produces chaos, not love and peace.
Evil flourishes when it is given permission to do so. That is why it is frequently packaged as something that appears good, even while producing destructive outcomes.
2 Corinthians 11:13–15
False apostles and deceitful workers disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Even Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.
“Servants of righteousness” are those who present ideas as loving and good, while the fruit of those ideas leads to harm and destruction.
The word apostle is not only a biblical office; it also means “one who is sent.” It can describe anyone sent with a mission to influence or shift the thinking of a group of people. That is what has been happening in America for decades through political systems, education, and cultural institutions. Many “sent voices” operate as ideological messengers shaping national direction, some aligned with truth, and others working against it. But much of the dissent being projected on American values was planned. It wasn’t by accident. This was a sent operation against our institutions by some church, political, and educational leaders and we must expose it with truth.
There is also an important biblical tension we have to understand, we are called to honor authority, but we are never called to place human authority above obedience to God.
The apostles themselves established this clearly.
Acts 5:29
“But Peter and the apostles answered and said, ‘We must obey God rather than men.’”
This statement was spoken directly in response to religious and governmental pressure telling them to stop preaching the gospel. In other words, when human authority demanded silence on what was good and true, they drew a clear line: obedience to God comes first.
This does not cancel Romans 13, which calls us to respect governing authorities and recognize that order itself is established under God. Instead, it reveals the order of Gods true intent and His love, and while earthly authority is real, it is never absolute. It is always subject to God’s higher law.
This pattern throughout Scripture is consistent. Daniel honored kings, yet refused to stop praying. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego respected the king, yet would not bow to an image. Peter himself commanded respect for governing structures, yet also stood before the very same authorities and said, “We must obey God rather than men.”
So biblically, the principle is not blind compliance, and it is not lawless resistance. It is discernment through the application of Godly truth that leads to the outcome of His love. Honor where honor is due, submit where submission does not violate God’s commands, but refuse alignment when human systems directly contradict biblical truth.
This is about being a people who are ultimately God-governed through the demonstration of godly love above all else. That is the rights we have been graciously afforded as Americans and we should never allow anyone to take those rights from us. It’s about the all encompassing purposes of remaining a free nation of loving order that produces the gospel throughout the world and it’s about our future generations rights to possess those exact same freedoms.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
Happy 250th Birthday America. We are grateful to be a part of such a beautiful and free nation! We will use our voices, and our actions where applicable, to preserve what we have been blessed with by the sweat, blood, and tears of those who have went before us, and by God Himself!
