Politics, Stay Home Christians Nothing to See Here
As Americans watch the political horror show that is unfolding in our government, disgust should fill the hearts of all. However, depending on the filter by which it is viewed, it brings out differing reactions. In some anger is incited, in others apathy is increased, and with many, fear and concern strengthen its grip. Some see this as a new thing. It can be heard in their questioning, “what is becoming of our nation.” Others believe we are watching the fourth or fifth sequel.
Before going further, I would suggest reading two articles that have previously been written for this magazine. “An Intensifying Storm Is Looming” by Mark E. Guy, and “Our Enemies Are Spiritual” by Jack Watts. I believe both these articles provide both present and prophetic insight into what is happening in our nation.
There are many, myself included that discern our present situation as the fruit produced by the seeds of rebellion sown into our nation during what has come to be known as the “Rebellion of the Sixties.” While some viewed this as simply the natural progression of society, many saw it as a spiritual attack that began the degrading of our nation’s honor. This is missed by many in the world and sadly some in the Church. Whether in ignorance, or through deception the truth is that there are two spiritual kingdoms that are in opposition for souls of humanity.
With these two kingdoms at work in the world comes the truth that we have an enemy. The enemy’s strategy has not changed and is to deceive people from the simplicity of the Truth and keep people from leaving his kingdom and entering the Kingdom of God. So, when in the sixties he sowed his seeds of rebellion into the hearts of the simple minded and they allowed his influence to deceive them from wisdom to ideologies.
The message that the Socialists would love to convey to Christians, whether blatant or subtle, is that their participation in the upcoming elections is not wanted or necessary. The covert power brokers that hide in the shadows behind Joe Biden are confident that they can pull off another victory over do nothing status quo RINOs of the Republican party but are not so confident if conservative arm of the party is joined by Christians.
In their thinking America must be redefined. In their thinking society has advanced in every aspect and Christianity has no place in its future. The ideology that they have worked hard to permeate into simple-minded and single-issue voters, must not be subjected to litmus test of good and evil, moral verse immoral, and lies exposed by truth. They are content for man’s religion staying, but Christians need to stay out.
There seems to be a growing confusion among Christians as to what their role is in our nation today. Some are sticking their heads in the sand, ignoring what is taking place in hopes it will soon end. I call them the, “If it be thy will Lord” crowd. Believing that God is in control of everything and that if He has predestined our nation to become hedonistic heathen nation, we should not resist. Others are going along to get along, bowing to preserve their lives and lifestyles. These are they that although they once stood strong for law, ethics, honor and morality, have softened their tone. Then there are a few that have forgotten that this is a spiritual battle and are ready to fight. Willing to start in the courtrooms but thinking themselves prepared to take it to the streets of their cities.
But then there is the many that have not swayed from the Lord’s commission, and the instructions of Apostles, Prophets, and Teachers. Motivated by the love of God in their hearts they are going and making. (Matt. 28:19,20) Keeping their hands on plow, they are focused on the row the Lord has given them to hoe. (Romans 15:20, 1 Cor 1:10) They are not confused about who they are. They are children of God. (1 John 3:2) Transferred from satan’s kingdom into the Kingdom of God. (Col. 1:13) to be servants of their King, Jesus.
Knowing that they are in this world, but not of it. They live with two assignments. To be a witness, and as ambassadors. (Acts 1:8, 2 Cor. 5:20) They do this with what I call, the Lord’s clearly defined rules of conduct and engagement.
Love your enemies. (Matt. 5:43-48, Luke 6:27, 1 Cor. 4:12)
Conduct yourself in wisdom. (Matt. 10:16, Eph. 5:15-17, Phil. 2:14-15, Col. 4:5, 1 Peter 2:12)
Speak with grace. (Romans 14:19, Col. 4:6, 1 Peter 3:15)
Submit to the governing authorities. (Romans 13:1-7)
I can only imagine how many stopped reading after that last one. You know as well as I do that there are some Christians that have a problem with that commandment. Some may try to reason it away by saying that Paul wrote this in Corinth after spending to much time in the sun, or from Derbe after being stoned in Lystra and was suffering a concussion. But Peter gives us the same commandment in his first epistle. (1 Peter 2:13-17) The Holy Spirit through both Peter and Paul, commands that obedience to earthly authorities is the general rule. But throughout the Bible we see that when human rulers legislate a requirement to sin, or violate a commandment of God, we are to disobey.
So, what are we as Christians to do with the ungodliness, the dishonor, the corruption that permeates of government. We keep our allegiance to our King. In love we continue to speak Truth, we continue to witness of the redemption that is available to all through Christ Jesus. We pray, we vote, and we continue to speak for justice and righteousness. We pursue both physical and spiritual freedom for all who are oppressed by the social injustice that is being pushed on this nation by socialist politicians. And until perfect justice is brought by our soon coming King, we consider ourselves like the three Hebrew children before Nebuchadnezzar and boldly proclaim…even if…we will not serve your god!
