God’s Word Increases Your Net Worth

Great insights into the heart and nature of God can be found in Deuteronomy 30. From the deepest parts of His core, He is expressing this unfathomable reality. “Wherever you are in life, no matter how far you have wandered from Me, ignored or forgotten My guidelines and rule book for life. No matter what a mess you may have made of your life or a situation by going by what ‘you thought, what you felt like doing, what you wanted to do’ instead of adhering to what I said. No matter how far away from Me that you find yourself, I will always take you back! And that without exception! As if that isn’t enough, I will also show you compassion. I will pick up all the scattered fragments of your life. You will get a new and fresh start as I turn the bad into your good.”
Do you realize that when you wander away from any part of the Word, you wander away from God? Any part of the Word of God that you ignore or reject, you are literally ignoring and rejecting God Himself.
Because the Word is God and the Word became human and lived among us.
When you stop reading, listening, and doing God’s Word, what eventually takes place is that you will wander, walk or run away from Him.
In this same chapter, if you find yourself as a wanderer, He offers you this encouragement, “My commandments aren’t too much for you, they’re not out of your reach. You do not need them to be explained before you can live them. The Word is as near as the tongue in your mouth, or as the heart in your chest.”
It sounds pretty simple doesn’t it? If He has written it on your heart, then why don’t you simply obey His commands? Perhaps, you don’t feel like it? Often times, self-willingness can be a great hindrance. The same reason many people do not pray very much, it’s because they don’t actually believe it will do them any good, is the exact misperception that detours many from obedience to God’s stipulations. The truth is that obedience does bring blessings. God wants to give you His best. But in order to do that, it is imperative that you give Him your best.
To the extent that you value God’s word, is also to the extent you will value God. You can discover with this quick quiz how truly important God’s Word is in your life:
1. Do I feel God’s Word is beneficial, profitable, worthwhile, and relevant to my life?
2. Do I esteem, appreciate, and actually treasure it?
3. Do I find it important merely on Christmas, Easter, and at weddings and funerals?
4. Do I read it regularly and even daily?
5. Do I habitually endeavor to put God’s Word into practice?
Now what causes people to not value something? Perhaps, it doesn’t appear as if it is something they need. Maybe it doesn’t look important, it may not seem to work, or it just doesn’t make sense. Many times, it takes more effort than you are willing to justify, it is just too much work and too hard.
There is a popular show, called “Storage Wars”. My opinion is that it is nothing more than a bunch of junk! But to someone else who knows how to recognize the worth of certain items, they will dig through the trash to find the treasure!
When someone else fails to see the importance of a painting or a rare and costly coin, that does not depreciate its value. Even so, if you fail to recognize that God is literally worth His weight in gold, that doesn’t make Him less valuable! Again, God and His Word are one. So when you fail to treasure God’s Word, you inevitably fail to treasure Him. If you do not realize how much you need His Word, you in essence do not realize to the degree you actually are in need of Him.
Let’s behold some beautiful gems from Psalm 119 in the first person:
I’m blessed when I follow His directions and doing my best to find Him.
I have banked Your promises in the vault of my heart so I won’t sin myself bankrupt.
Your words hold me up in bad times, and Your promises rejuvenate me.
If Your revealed Word hadn’t delighted me so, I would have given up when the hard times came.
I will never forget the advice You gave me, for You saved my life with these words.
I have become smarter than my teachers since I’ve pondered and absorbed Your counsel.
I’ve become wiser than the aged simply by doing what You tell me.
By Your words I can see where I’m going.
I reverently ponder your Word all day long.
I was up before sunrise crying for help, hoping for a word from You.
I stayed awake all night, prayerfully pondering Your promise.
Now tell me, when was the last time you were sleep deprived over God’s Word! God’s Word brings blessings and prosperity. This goes so much deeper than monetary gain, though it definitely will include it. But there are some things that money just can’t buy. Such as, money cannot buy you physical, emotional, or mental health. It can’t buy you meaningful relationships. Has money ever bought you true love, peace or joy? Money can’t even buy you a ticket to heaven!
Treasuring God’s Word adds value to your life. Embracing its importance, contributes to your value. Not to God, because everything the Father and the Son did for you was because they believed you were well worth it! Even Jesus proved it by valuing your life above His own! Since, God’s Word is the greatest asset in the world, therefore, when you cherish His Word, you will increase your own personal net worth!
